Project Update – August 2019

In June, the Quality Checkers team put on a training morning which showed our five new recruits what a Quality Check is, how we carry out our checks and how the reports are written. The team have been to a number of day services to carry out Quality Checks recently all around the Dorset area. Take a look at three of our new recruits on a Quality Check in July.

Quality checking is important as it can show how good services are. It helps to make sure services are supporting people with learning disabilities to lead full, safe and active lives.

The Quality Checking team judge the quality of the services against a set of standards. Then they write a report about what they found. They might make suggestions about how things could improve and make people’s lives better. The team have all used services themselves and are known as ‘experts by experience’. This means they have first-hand knowledge of using services so make very good quality checkers!

Kite Mark

People First Dorset award our kite mark to services that our Quality Check Team would recommend to others.  This quality mark shows people that we have visited the service to carry out a check and we think they are doing a great job. Our Kite Marks are only for a year from the date of the check, in which time we hope that they are able to make the changes we suggested in the Action Plan.
