Hi readers it’s just me William here this week talking about lying, and if it’s ever ok to lie.
For me, William, I don’t feel happy if I know that someone has lied. As far as I know, I don’t think anyone has lied to me, but the thing is I probably wouldn’t actually know.
I don’t like hearing on the news that politicians have lied. We hear so much about this but I think there are bigger things to worry about in the world right now. I would like them to be honest because not telling the truth does not help build our trust.
It made me wonder if it’s ever ok to tell a lie, like a white lie. Is it also ever ok for the politicians to tell a lie because they are protecting the country? Sometimes I think it’s ok to tell a small white lie. Like say I had a girlfriend and she turned up at my door ready for us to go out for dinner, and was wearing an outfit I really didn’t like. The thing is, even if I didn’t like it, I can tell she loved what she was wearing. If she asked me if I liked it, I would say she looked lovely. I would do that because I would not want to hurt her feelings or spoil the evening.
Another might be that your child won’t eat any vegetables so you puree some into a spaghetti bolognaise. You might lie if they ask so they will still eat the bolognaise. I think that’s ok because it is good the child gets their vegetables which is really important when they are growing.
So, my message to you is don’t lie unless your lie is for really good reasons.
