Hi readers, Emily, Kerry and William, meeting together in the Kings Arms for our final catch up in person before Christmas.
We were due to make a special vlog today but more about that in the new year. Thinking about that, got us talking about what is important to us in life. One big thing that came up was being accepted.
We wondered, do you feel accepted, by your family, by your community, in your work, by your friends? What does ‘being accepted’ mean for you? We hope you do.
Now try to imagine what it might feel like not to be accepted in any of those places. Imagine what it might feel like if you were walking into town, and people stared at you in a strange way because you look a bit different. Or you are in a wheelchair and heading to a café in town, but find barriers to get there, like the lift to the cafe not working or pavements broken so it’s that bumpy you feel like you’re about to fall out of your wheelchair! It doesn’t exactly make you feel welcomed by your community, who haven’t fixed these, which will help you belong.
We wonder what it would be like if everyone in the world were more understanding, where no-one is judging, where we are all the same, and the world was genuinely inclusive.
We think that’s why we like places like People First Dorset, as we feel so welcome and can be ourselves there. It’s like one big family where we feel safe and support each other. We love venues that also fully accept us, like the Junction.
We hope this gets you thinking, if you judge others, and how welcoming you are to all people. Out of room, so see you next week!
