Emily’s holiday – part two!

Hi readers, it’s me, Emily, here, carrying on about my holiday. On Thursday, we went to Chatsworth House, walking around the amazing gardens before lunch and another ice cream.

Friday was the best. After going to a Farmers Market in Belper, where we bought tasty lunch treats, we had coffee and scones in a gorgeous arts café where someone played the piano. Then we had a super interesting tour of Heage Windmill, which I loved!

The weekend was restful, despite lots to do in the house and garden.  Mum was busy watering flowers, fruit, and vegetables. She also fed the tadpoles and cut the grass.

Now in week two, we began with a short ‘3 mile’ walk at Kedleston Hall! It felt like being in the woods, including the very ‘different’ building which looked like a hobbit or Shrek’s home! We enjoyed expensive but deserved, tasty cold drinks and cakes before heading back.

On Tuesday we visited my auntie and uncle's church, which had an amazing display of woollen things on a tree. The work was incredible.

On Wednesday, we took a fascinating walk around Eyam, best known as the Plague Village. In 1665, some materials arrived from London with plague fleas, and people started to die. The villagers were brave. They stayed in their village to stop the plague spreading to others. The plague lasted for 14 months, and 260 people died. It was sad but amazing how they protected other villages.

After a picnic under the trees at Ashford-on-the-Water, we enjoyed the church flower festival, with displays for famous people. Mum liked the Vivienne Westwood flowers.

After Friday’s breakfast at a pottery village, I fed some huge fish with fish food I bought! Finally, after more tidying and a Saturday pub lunch, we drove home. It was such a nice, peaceful time away.
