Warmth in the Noise

Hi readers, it’s Kerry and Emily here this week, which for me, Kerry, has been anything but quiet – but honestly, I’d not have it any other way.

Between two days of interviewing, our PFD Speaking Up group, and Saturday’s football game in Dorchester, my week’s been full of voices and conversations. I realised that while softness can happen in the comfort of our homes, I also find it in the natural rhythm of being around others – be it being active in my community or in the midst of a football crowd.

I’ve written some examples of this ‘beautifully un-quiet’ feeling means to me:

Energy of the terrace – there’s a unique kind of comfort in the roar of a football match. Being at Saturday’s game reminded me that softness can exist in a shared cheer from the stands, and if I lean into that collective energy it can feel grounding - being one voice among many all focused on the same ‘goal’!

The feeling after group – after our Speaking Up groups, I often notice a buzz comes from finding your voice. I like to keep working on that feeling in my week - maybe by continuing a chat, playing upbeat music, or sharing kind words. For me, there’s a special peace when your words have a place in the world.

The art of interviews – I love listening to others journey, and especially when we let the conversation to flow naturally, those gentle moments of discovery where a simple question creates a spark and a new story appears.

Sometimes softness isn’t about silence. It’s about the right kind of noise.

This week reminded me - using our voices is a gift. Be it a quiet conversation or a lively stadium, there is a cosy comfort in a life that holds a healthy balance of both.
