Emily’s new job

Hi readers, Emily and Kerry here, and this week it’s me, Emily, writing about my new job.

Yes, I am very pleased to say that after all the job searching, I have finally got a new job as midday supervisor assistant in a local school.

I started two weeks ago, and so far so good. It means my routine has changed quite a bit this month, as each day now I head out mid-morning to catch a bus, which takes me to the school. Then after lunch I head home on another bus. Already it’s giving my week a lot more structure, which I like.

I’m also pleased to say it’s been great so far! During the first week there was quite a bit of paperwork to do, new people to meet, learning the routine of the school day, where things are, and how everything works.

Although I was a little nervous before I started, it was probably because I wasn’t sure what the job would actually be like. Well, what I can say is that it’s definitely not what I thought it was going to be. Nope, it’s much better!

I get to help with the children before lunch, then support at lunchtime, before my duties end.  Even better, the children are lovely and the staff are very friendly. Although it’s only been two weeks, I feel like part of the team.  It’s so much fun too. A highlight at the end of the first week was making pancakes and singing with the children. Definitely a good work moment!

Although it’s all still new, I am pleased to be working again, and more than that, that I have managed to get such a great job with lovely people, doing something useful, and that I enjoy. It feels very good!

Emily’s story really resonated with me because it shows how meaningful the right support and opportunity can be in helping someone grow in confidence and independence. Reading about her journey made me think of Rolfe’s Reflective Model—what happened, so what, and now what—because her experience clearly highlights not just what she achieved, but why it matters and what it could lead to next. It’s inspiring to see how a new job can bring not only skills but also a sense of purpose and belonging. I especially liked how her success reflects patience, encouragement, and belief from others around her, which is something many people need but don’t always get. It reminds me that small steps can lead to big changes…

I appreciate how clearly you share Emily’s journey and celebrate her achievement. Your writing is simple and inspiring, much like effective business plan writing that turns goals into reality
