Mayor’s Tea Party

Hi readers, it’s Emily and Kerry here as usual. Today I, Kerry, am writing about the Mayor’s Tea Party, which I went to last week at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, so it was lovely that, from the moment I arrived, the room felt welcoming, bright, full of excitement and I had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

I was there representing People First Dorset, along with Richard, one of our trustees. We went mainly because the Mayor of Dorchester, Councillor Les Fry, has chosen People First Dorset as one of his charities for the year, along with Dorchester Youth and Community Centre and Prostate Cancer UK. It means a great deal for us to have his support.

The afternoon tea itself was a real feast for the eyes. Imagine tables covered with a colourful rainbow array of beautiful-looking cakes, tempting sweets, fluffy freshly baked scones, sandwiches with yummy fillings like salmon or cheese and pickle. All washed down with endless flowing tea - keeping us all refreshed and hydrated! Thanks to the Posh Partridge who provided the food - everything looked and tasted wonderful.

After tea, the Decadettes sang songs from the 1950s. It couldn’t have been better, as they perfectly complemented the afternoon atmosphere.

Later, I had a lovely chat with Les. I think he makes a truly great Mayor, already doing loads of good in Dorchester. So, with the sunshine outside, friendly company, delicious food and great music, it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
