The Perfect Food Shop

Hello everyone, it’s Emily and Kerry here. This week I, Emily am talking food shopping!

There can be a real pleasure in a good food shop. For me, as I’m not a great fan of shopping, it must be just right.

For me, my ideal store has large, wide aisles so I never feel cramped or rushed; friendly and helpful staff; and I love to see a wonderful variety of foods. Most of all, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables - bright, crisp and ready to eat.

My food shop always starts at home, where I write my list carefully every week. First, I check what I already have in the cupboards to make sure I don’t forget anything or buy things twice. Then I head out to the store. I do my best sticking to this list, but let’s be honest, the odd treat somehow occasionally slips into the trolley! A buttery pastry, a bag of crisps, or a cold fizzy drink – lovely, little extras to enjoy at the weekend.

Once I’ve paid, I like to take my time packing the bags, with no pressure to hurry. However, I don’t enjoy unpacking these bags back at home. It feels like I’m playing Tetris, working hard to squeeze everything into the fridge and freezer without squashing anything or it falls out. Luckily, my support staff are brilliant at this, so I happily leave that tricky job to them!

There is one thing I never miss. That’s fresh flowers. Every week I choose a bunch, some because they smell divine, other times because of the bold, vibrant colours. I love how they fill my home with their lovely scents and brighten every room beautifully.

So readers, what’s your ideal supermarket or food shop? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Until next time, happy shopping!
