Hi readers, it’s Emily, Kerry and William here talking about how we can support People First Dorset (PFD) the charity who do loads for us, and many other people who have a learning disability in Dorset.
It’s been much harder recently to fund their fab activities. We want to make the public aware why PFD is vital to us and others, and to please, please, think about donating. Just visit www.peoplefirstdorset.org.uk and click on the donate button at the top right of the homepage.
I, Kerry, have worked at PFD for over 10 years, so know what a brilliant charity it is. We run amazing projects which really help people with learning disabilities in Dorset to feel less isolated, gain confidence and learn to speak up for themselves.
PFD has mostly relied on grants, which have been way harder to get, so we are also working hard to raise local awareness and ask people to donate. I’m wondering if it’s time for me to jump out of an aeroplane to raise funds! I’ve been talking about it for years. How will I feel when I’m about to jump?! The person I jump with will need to be very experienced, to help with my physical disabilities (I’m in a wheelchair!).
I, Emily, have a whacky and fun idea. To raise funds by wearing your brightest clothes during Learning Disability Awareness week, in June. Sometimes our disabilities are not visible, so let’s stand out! We could do a fundraising walk along the beach and wear PFD colours – Purple, Blue and Orange!
Also, look out for new fundraising postcards, going through letterboxes, with a lovely picture of our friend Natalie on them. If you are the Poundbury Summerfest this Sunday, we’ll be there. Please come and see us and join in our games!
