Hi readers, it’s William, Kerry and Emily here this week, asking questions to Kerry about her upcoming holiday.
So, where are you off to, Kerry ? I’m going to Menorca.
Why Mencorca? Well, for several reasons. My support worker Louise, who’s coming with me, used to live there, so knows it well. Because it’s wheelchair friendly, I can get onto the beach and into the sea in a rented beach wheelchair. I am really excited about that and the sunshine!
Is anyone else going? Yes, my partner Steve is also coming. He’s never been on a plane, so that will be interesting. He’s excited but nervous.
Where are you staying? We’ll be in a half board hotel, and I’m taking my manual chair which folds up.
Is it far from the beach? It’s about a 10 minute walk away from the beach. I’ve bought two bikinis especially. It’s the first time I’ve been on a holiday like this. I’ve even put on a bit of fake tan so I don’t look too white!
Has anything been difficult? What’s been a little tricky is navigating the disabled blue badge scheme. I need my blue badge for the hire car in Menorca, but also for parking at Gatwick Airport. I phoned the airport yesterday to ask what to do, and because we are not in the EU anymore, it’s different. I must photocopy my badge and leave in the car at the airport, then take my original badge, plus a copy of the Spanish blue badge, to put in the hire car! Just another hurdle for us people with a disability to have to manage!
Will you tell us how it goes? Yes, I will definitely tell you all about it when I’m back!
